About Adipex
Adipex diet pills are a medication classified as a sympathomimetic
appetite suppressant. Adipex diet pills are available by
prescription only. Adipex falls into the class of drugs known as FDA
schedule 4 medications. All of the medications in this class,
including Adipex, are Phentermine HCL. Adipex is a brand name of
Phentermine HCL, and Adipex is manufactured by Gate Pharmaceuticals.
Adipex is FDA approved for the short term treatment of obesity. As
with other drugs in this class, Adipex is used for short term,
initial weight loss, at the same time as a patient develops new
methods of eating well and exercising more frequently. The appetite
reducing effects of Adipex, as with all sympathomimetic appetite
suppressants, decreases with extended use. For this reason, Adipex
is prescribed for a short term of between 30 to 90 days. Patients
should not take Adipex for a longer period than advised by their
doctor, and should only take Adipex in the dosage prescribed by
their doctor.
What is Adipex?
The active ingredient in
Adipex diet pills is Phentermine HCL. Adipex is the same drug as the
well known, generic Phentermine drug, but is marketed under the
brand name Adipex. Phentermine HCL became popular in the U.S. in the
1970s, and has since been marketed under names such as Phentermine,
Adipex, Adipex-p, and Ionamin.
Adipex and those drugs that are Phentermine HCL are the most widely
used weight loss medications in the United States. Adipex has been
shown to be effective in the short term treatment of obesity and
severe over weight.
Patients taking Adipex are encouraged to develop healthful eating
and exercise habits, so that the benefits of Adipex can be continued
once Adipex medication has ceased.
Taking Adipex
Adipex diet pills should be taken on an empty stomach, one half to
one hour before breakfast. Adipex tablets may be halved, but Adipex
tablets should not be chewed or crushed. Taking Adipex late in the
day is not recommended, as Adipex can cause difficulty sleeping.
Adipex should be taken only as often as advised by a doctor, and
Adipex should never be continued for a period longer than that
suggested by a doctor.
Adipex Side Effects
Some patients may experience unwanted side effects while taking
Adipex diet pills. These potential side effects will most often
disappear after taking Adipex for a week or so. Adipex can cause
trouble sleeping, dry mouth, upset stomach, constipation, or
heightened irritability. Adipex side effects should be discussed
with a doctor. Those side effects from Adipex that do not disappear
quickly should be carefully reviewed by a doctor. A doctor can tell
you if Adipex medication is not for you.
Precautions of Adipex Use
Always inform your doctor about your complete medical history prior
to taking Adipex diet pills. Patients with high blood pressure,
diabetes, glaucoma, emotional problems or over active thyroid should
advise their doctor about their condition and medications before
taking Adipex. Pregnant and breast feeding women should not take
Adipex. Do not take Adipex with alcohol or other drugs, as dizziness
can result. Children should not take Adipex.
Adipex dosage
Take only the dose of Adipex recommended by your doctor, and only
take an Adipex dose as often as recommended by your doctor. Do not
double up doses of Adipex after a dose is missed. The missed Adipex
dose should be skipped, and the regular Adipex dosing schedule
resumed.
Adipex and other Drugs
Before taking Adipex diet pills, be sure to tell your doctor about
all medicines and medications being taken. MAO inhibitors and high
blood pressure medications must be reviewed with a doctor prior to
taking Adipex. Adipex should not be taken while taking other weight
loss medications. Patients considering Adipex should be aware that
decongestants are often found in over the counter medications.
Discuss these medications with a doctor prior to Adipex use.
Storing Adipex
Adipex diet pills should always be kept away from sunlight and
sources of moisture, at room temperature. Always ensure that Adipex
medication is out of the reach of children and pets.
